Custom Builds
If our Standard sizes don't suit your needs we can custom build a Stira to your specifications. If you require an extra large frame size to access a work area or just have very high ceilings, above 9 feet we can custom build a Stira to suit your needs.
Important considerations before ordering.
- The trapdoor opening length of an attic stairs is dictated by the ceiling height. Because the ladder of the attic stairs is divided into three sections when folded up the minimum trapdoor length will be roughly one third of the ceiling height. Making the trapdoor length longer is not a problem, however it's often not possible to make the frame length any shorter as it would prevent the operation of the stairs.
- All Heavy Duty and any Original attic stairs 10ft or higher require an extra set of springs. This means these stairs need to be at least 24" wide to accomidate these springs.
- Before ordering a custom build ensure it is not possible to enlarge your existing trapdoor opening, this can often be easier and cheaper than ordering a custom built Stira, most trapdoor openings can be enlarged.
- We recommend that the trapdoor opening you leave for the Stira be half an inch larger than the Stira. i.e.: If you are ordering the standard 8 foot Stira with trapdoor dimensions of 24" x 41" that would mean you leave the opening in your ceiling at 24 and a half inches by 41 and a half inches.
12 foot is the maximum ceiling height we build too.

Because of the height involved Stira over 10ft 6" can be difficult to operate. As you can see in the picture to the right even when unfolded the stairs will still be a considerable distance from the ground making it difficult to unfold the stairs. The solution to this problem is the Stiramatic option (only available in Ireland) as we can make the frame length of the Stira much longer which would mean it's closer to the ground when in the open position.
